Chloe Cox, LMFT

Founder & Clinical Director · Eating disorders, trauma, and EMDR

Most of my clients have done therapy before.

They can explain their patterns clearly. They know where the perfectionism came from, why the restriction started, what the bingeing is doing for them. They've had the insight conversation, sometimes for years.

And the behavior hasn't changed.

That gap — between understanding something and being free of it — is what I work on. It's usually where trauma is sitting, and it's why I trained in EMDR.

Who I work with:

Adult women who are managing something privately that has gone on long enough.

Often high-functioning, frequently the person everyone else relies on, and usually very good at making it look like nothing's wrong. The eating disorder or the anxiety runs underneath a life that looks, from the outside, entirely fine.

I'm strongest with:

  • Body dysmorphia — especially the kind that’s followed you all your life

  • Binge eating — including the shame that keeps it hidden and keeps it going

  • Restriction and chronic dieting — including the versions everyone else calls discipline

  • Trauma and PTSD — single-incident and developmental

  • Perfectionism — the standard you'd never hold anyone else to

  • Eating disorders with trauma underneath — where most of my work actually happens

How I work:

EMDR.

I've completed EMDRIA-approved training (Parts 1, 2, and 3) and use EMDR with clients whose eating disorder, anxiety, or body image distress has trauma driving it.

Eating disorder treatment.

My whole career has been in this work. I treat the behaviors and what's underneath them at the same time, because addressing only one tends to produce relapse.

Sequenced carefully.

When someone has both an eating disorder and a trauma history, the order matters. Reprocessing trauma while you're medically unstable or actively restricting can make things worse. I'll assess that openly and tell you if the answer is "not yet, and here's what we do first."

I'm direct. I won't be shocked by anything you tell me. Our sessions are a totally open space to be as real as you need to be to heal.

Background:

I founded SoCal Wellness Group because so often eating disorder care looks like treating the food problem and stopping there — as though the perfectionism, the anxiety, and the things that happened weren't the reason the eating disorder existed.

I recovered from an eating disorder rooted in perfectionism and trauma myself. I mention it because it shaped how I practice, and helps me serve my clients with compassion that can only come from personal experience.
